International art festival Onego-Classic appeared in 2012. The main aim of this festival is to develop art and culture in Republic of Karelia to give the citizens the opportunity to get acquainted with highly-artistic examples of the world culture and to improve the prestige of Petrozavodsk as the second capital of culture in the North-East of Russia. The festival is hosted by the Karelian ministry of culture and by the Karelian state philharmonic.
The festival gets together high-level artists, who perform on the stage of the Karelian state philharmonic; presents creative and spectacular programmes which include rare stylistic combinations, unusual ensembles, old favourite and new interesting music. Petrozavodsk has a sustainable status of one of the music capitals of Russia, and this spring festival on the bank of the Onego lake supports this status.
