The music festival Ruskeala Symphony appeared at the initiative of the Head of the Republic of Karelia, Artur Parfenchikov, in 2017. This event became very important for Russian cultural and touristic life and immediately entered the list of top 15 regional events of the country. The guests of the festival were attracted not only by the programme of the festival and the eminent artists, but also by the opportunity to visit unique nature and industrial landmarks – human-made marble quarries, which appeared in the place of the marble mining of 18th-20th centuries. The stage of the festival was located in the open air in the “Italian quarry”.
At the first festival there was only one evening concert of the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Karelian state philharmonic. The programme of the second festival included seven different concerts in two days and the festival became international. Artists from Russia, France, China and Argentina performed in the picturesque scenery of the marble quarries, which attract thousands of tourists every year. In addition to the Philharmonic Orchestra other professional music bands participated in the programme of the festival.
The programme of the Ruskeala Symphony was interesting for the audience of different musical background. It included classical music, modern music in classical adaptation, jazz and even declamation performance. The festival attracted so many people, that the number of the visitors was even more, than it was expected – about 6000 people.
